SAN FRANCISCO, 30 October 2015: Predictions for the the upcoming holiday peak season suggest Singapore will be the top destination for Asia-Pacific travellers, Bangkok for Europeans, Madrid for Latin Americans and New York for North Americans.
In September, Thailand was back on the most searched destinations list worldwide, after an absence from the list in the second quarter of 2015.
The predictions were released by Sojern, a leading performance marketing platform for travel brands, in its Q3 Global Travel Insights report based on the analysis of more than a billion traveller intent data points across the globe.
Sojern says the holiday peak season, December through to January, will see North American travellers possibly taking longer trips than last year: 38% are searching for trips of eight days or more compared to 34% last year. For now, only 52% of North American early bookers are looking to travel alone this holiday season compared to 74% of all bookers last year.
A bird’s eye view of Sojern’s 2015 Global Travel Trends concluded September was the most popular month for booking trips, with 37% of all the quarter’s booking taking place in that month.
Globally, the most searched destinations during the third quarter of the year were: the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey, Thailand, Portugal and Russia.
Thailand re-entered the list after a second quarter’s hiatus, replacing Greece.
During the first three quarters of the year more travellers, resident in North America and Europe, cut advance bookings for airline tickets to less than seven days, before their planned departure date. Significantly fewer travellers searched for tickets 60 days or more before the departure date – 10% fewer travellers in North America and 19% in Europe (Q1 compared to Q3).
