B&B start up in Kayin

KAYIN STATE, 29 July 2015: Kayin State will be the first state to officially establish bed and breakfast accommodation in Myanmar even before nation-wide licensing is in place for guest houses .

The state government has approved two of seven applications to open a B&B at Thandaunggyi, a colonial-era hill station in northern Kayin State about a 90-minute drive east of Taungoo.

Myanmar Times quoted Kayin State Minister for Planning and Economy, U Naing Min Soe Thein, saying the regional government had written to Nay Pyi Taw requesting permission to open two B&Bs.

Air China cuts fares by 25%

BANGKOK, 29 July 2015: Air China discounts fares from Thailand on selected routes until the end of September this year.

The promotion sells roundtrip fares, inclusive of taxes and surcharges, departing Bangkok to China starting at THB10,480 to Hangzhou, THB11,630 to Shantou and Fuzhou, THB12,230 to Wuxi and Xi’An, and THB14,180 to Beijing.

A THB18,505 fare is on offer to Seoul and a THB20,825 fare to Tokyo.

Danang on clean beach mission

DANANG, 29 July 2015: Danang authorities are warning citizens and visitors they will be fined for littering the city’s beaches.

The campaign attempts to instill better civic behaviour in public places and promote a clean and safe environment for tourism.

The fines are minimal at USD2.4 to USD4.8 for beach littering.

Phuket steps up event promotions

PHUKET, 29 July 2015: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau has signed a pact with Phuket province to boost the events business on the popular holiday island.

TCEB strategic and business development vice president, Supawan Teerarat,  said Phuket is already popular destination for events but the business can grow.

“We will formulate strategies that will encourage events that will add value to the local economy.”

Association will have their day at ITB Asia

SINGAPORE, 29 July 2015: ITB Asia will continue its partnership with conference and association management company, KIT Group to expand this year’s Association conference programme.

A series of sessions entitled ‘EAST Meetings WEST’ will focus on how European and International associations can optimise their activities within the Asia-Pacific region and include dedicated discussions focusing on key markets such as China and India.

The KIT conference will take place, 22 October, on the second day of ITB Asia, at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Bangkok route top at Changi

SINGAPORE, 29 July 2015: Passenger traffic at Singapore Changi Airport increased 1% in June 2015, with 4.70 million passengers passing through the airport.

This was Changi Airport’s busiest month so far this year. In terms of flight movements, a total of 28,530 aircraft landings and take-offs were recorded during the month, a growth of 1.4% year-on-year.

In the first six months of 2015, Changi Airport managed 26.6 million passengers, an increase of 0.2% compared to the corresponding period in 2014. Aircraft movements totalled 169,890, 1.0% lower than a year before.

Hotel.com pushes Mother’s Day deals

BANGKOK, 29 July 2015: Hotels.com is posting discounts of up to 50% on recently opened hotels in Thailand, ahead of the nation’s Mother’s Day celebrations 12 August.

The deals are on hotels in Bangkok, Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai and are bookable from now until 22 August for stays up until 7 October.

August and September are traditionally low season months due to heavy rains across the country, prompting hotels to offer discounted packages.

AirAsia X signals Sapporo launch

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 July 2015: AirAsia X will launch four weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sapporo beginning 1 October, the airline announced Tuesday.

To launch the service, AirAsia X will sell promotional all-in-fares from as low as MYR99* one-way for economy, or MYR999* one-way for premium flatbed.

These promotional fares were introduced Tuesday and are available until 2 August for the travel period 1 October to 31 August 2016.

Long weekend break

BANGKOK, 29 July 2015: Thais and foreign residents will enjoy a four-day holiday break starting this Thursday thanks to two Buddhist holidays that fall on Thursday and Friday.

The Friday holiday heralds the start of the three-month Buddhist Lent. Devout Buddhists abstain from physical pleasures and alcohol. Some participate in meditation courses.

When the weekend is added to the two public holidays, Thais have four days to take a break. Many will head for beach resorts ,or take advantage of the cheap low-season fares on offer to visit neighbouring countries.
