China Airlines to increase Yangon flights
BANGKOK, 9 May 2012: China Airlines will increase its service to Yangon from three to four a week and up to five in the third quarter of this year.
From 15 May, China Airlines will add one weekly service on Tuesday to the Taipei-Yangon route lifting the service to four. Currently it flies on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Later, from 15 September, the carrier will increase frequency to five adding a flight on Saturday.
But the driving force behind flight increases is not tourism, but the rush to tap business opportunities as sanctions are withdrawn and the country opens to foreign investment.
In addition, Qatar Airways announced earlier it will resume its Doha-Yangon service from 29 October after halting services four years ago.
Condor Flugdienst, Germany’s leisure airline will also start a weekly service to Yangon via Phuket, 1 November.
