Sex on the beach upsets Boracay mayor

MANILA, 6 January 2011 – Philippine authorities may ban sex on the world-famous beaches of Boracay island after a television crew filmed two naked couples making out in public on New Year’s Day, the local mayor said Thursday.

The clip showed one pair apparently having sex on the beach and the other locked in a passionate kiss in the water, with the woman’s bare breasts clearly shown above the waterline.

The ABS-CBN television network said it filmed the apparently Western couples at 0200 on New Year’s Day following a large beachside party on Boracay to usher in 2011.

“We’re thinking of a ‘no sex on the beach’ (rule) so the other tourists would not be scandalised,” John Yap, mayor of Malay town that has jurisdiction over Boracay, told ABS-CBN in an interview posted on its website this week.

Yap said authorities were aware of the sensitivities of the devoutly Roman Catholic nation.

“It’s an isolated case and quite difficult to control but, if police had seen them, they would have been arrested for public scandal,” he said.

In a brief phone call with AFP on Thursday, Yap confirmed the quotes.

Filipina film star and talk show television host Ruffa Gutierrez, who said she was vacationing with her two young children at Boracay over the New Year, expressed disgust at the holiday makers’ over-exuberance.

“I don’t want my children to be doing those things (public sex acts) one day,” she told ABS-CBN.

“For me, it’s just not right.”

Boracay draws about 650,000 tourists every year, or about 22 % of the country’s total visitor traffic, according to tourist ministry data.

Boracay is over rated to start with. Sure the beach is beautiful, but that is where it stops. Sure there are many things to do for fun, and everything we did was alot of fun, but thats where that stops too. So you must be thinking what is wrong with Boracay then. Filth on the streets, Trash everywhere. To think that lovers from all over the world come there to enjoy the beauty in a romantic setting, and find themselves in a place of filth. I know because I traveled from the US to Boracay not once but twice and the longer I was there the more I saw it. Some hotels should be closed to mold. I inspect every room I stay in, before I stay in it. I spent $1,300 to come to the Philippines then even more to get to Boracay and even more while there. In all I spent over $3,000 USD only to be in a place of filth. What is wrong with the mayor that he can not clean this place up. Your worried about people making love when you have people chasing people away from coming there again by trying to sell them everything under the sun. There should be a set place for us to go to to buy things on the walkway. nothing like people coming to you every 2 seconds asking if you want to ” Iland hopping, banana boat, buy a hat, buy sunglasses, buy this or buy that. It is so bad that people wear shirts saying no to these things. There is so much trash in the streets that when it rains the streets fill with water ” FILTHY WATER” I also noticed there must be 100 or more police on the beach, but what do they do other than talk to eachother. How can you have this many police and they did not see this going on. You need to take half the police and make them clean the drains so this way when someone throws trash on the ground they will make them pick it up or fine them. Trash cans should be cleaned and should be located even on the main streets so the trash has a plas to go. Many poor people there begging on the beach. Hire locals to clean the streets. For God sakes a person is charged a 12% VAT tax. use this money to clean the place. The mayor should be fired and the President should appoint a person over see Boracay since it is a international torist place. Just because people are lazy and don’t want to be told what to do there is no reason to let them trash such a beautiful place that feeds them. And to think your worried about people kissing or having sex on the beach, trust me you have bigger things to worry about. Also what time of day or night did this happen. Kids should not be on the beach all night. I just would like to see one part of the Philippines be the best it can be.
