Turkish Airlines backs tennis

BANGKOK 1 September, 2010 – Turkish Airlines yesterday signed an agreement with PTT Thailand Open to be the platinum sponsor of this year’s tournament, scheduled 25 September to 3 October at IMPACT Arena – Muang Thong Thani.

In announcing the sponsorship deal with Turkish Airlines, president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand, Suwat Liptapanlop said: “We welcome Turkish Airlines as a Platinum sponsor to this year’s PTT Thailand Open, which promises to be a highly competitive and exciting event having attracted such players as World #1 Rafael Nadal.

Turkish Airlines director for Thailand and Cambodia, Adnan Aykac, noted the airline was backing major sports as a sponsor citing a decision to sponsor both the Barcelona and Manchester United football teams as well as the Euroleague basketball.

“We are also on the way to becoming a key airline player in Thailand and this tennis event will bring us even closer to both Thai and expatriates living in Thailand. Turkish Airlines is one of the fastest growing airlines carriers in the world today,” Mr Aykac added.

In addition to sponsoring the event, Turkish Airlines is also offering 14 airline tickets to Europe for lucky winners who join the PTT Thailand Open this year.

At the Turkish Airlines booth, visitors complete a boarding pass to gain a chance to win three sets of two tickets each to one of the 67 destinations that Turkish airlines flies to in Europe.

PTT Thailand Open now in its eighth year is part of the ATP Tour and has welcomed big name players in men’s tennis including Roger Federer, Lleyton Hewitt, Marat Safin, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick.

Turkish Airlines has been flying to Thailand for over 21 years and has daily flights between Istanbul and Bangkok.
