Thai Airways International is selling In-love fares, but insists they are not restricted to honeymooners or couples.

The campaign started in mid-February, during Valentine’s Day celebrations, but other than that there is no connection to love or romance. Fares under this category are lower than what the airline quotes for summer months.

In-love fares have a one-month validity and are available for purchase until 31 July, while departures are allowed from 15 May, but the journey must be completed by 31 July. No miles accrual for ROP members.

Royal Orchid Holidays also packages three-day/two-night and three-day/four-night holidays for domestic and Asian destinations, named Romantic Gateways.

In-love Asia fares sell at Bt13,000 for Seoul and Pusan and Japanese cities — Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, sell at Bt15,000. Taxes and surcharges for Korean and Japanese cities are around Bt6,100.

Promotional fares to Korean cities, sold  through travel agencies and traditional distribution channels, are considerably cheaper than those sold through internet vendors, or search engines, that average Bt17,000 roundtrip. Travel agents sell Korean Air and Asiana Airlines’ fares for around Bt14,600.

THAI’s In-love Tokyo fare sells at Bt21,100, all inclusive, is higher than a fare sold by United Airlines (Bt18,440). When compared with All Nippon Airways, TG’s promotional fare is slightly lower than ANA’s best fare for travel in May at Bt21,780.

As for In-love Europe, the fares are about 40% cheaper than THAI’s normal economy class fares. THAI’s In-love Euro fares are: Athens, Bt22,575; Moscow, Bt23,520; Copenhagen, Zurich, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Stockholm, Rome and Paris, Bt28,050 and London, Bt29,000. Add-on taxes and surcharges are: Bt9,620 to Athens; Bt8,470, Moscow; Bt8,650, Copenhagen; Bt8,990, Zurich; about Bt9,000, German cities; Bt8,145 to Madrid; around Bt8,500, Italian cities; Bt8,455, Stockholm; Bt9,800, Paris and Bt11,470, London.

Compared with some airlines offering non-stop flights, British Airways quotes Bt36,910 for its lowest fare to London, against Bt40,470 on THAI. THAI’s Frankfurt fare, Bt37,125 is almost the same as Lufthansa’s lowest, Bt36,365.  The In-love fare to Copenhagen, Bt36,700 is slightly cheaper than SAS’s Bt36,920. THAI’s Paris fare is Bt6,740 different from Air France fare, Bt37,850 versus Bt44,590.

Apart from the fare promotion, Royal Orchid Holidays sells Romantic Gateways packages, but only until 31 March. Packages include fare, accommodation with breakfast, airport transfer, dinner  and privileges for a couple from individual hotels such as a bottle of champagne or wine.

A four-day/three-night Romantic Gateways Thailand package’ sells at Bt8,960 per person to Samui, based on double occupancy, Bt10,710 to Chiang Mai and Bt16,415 to Phuket.
