A new consumer destination marketing campaign for the 10 countries of Southeast Asia will launch this week, 12 March, at ITB Berlin.

Southeast Asia: Feel the Warmth is the campaign brand for the website SoutheastAsia.Org that is linked to the Singapore-based Wego.Com meta-search site. Three developments will be announced during ITB.

A map-based trip planner will be featured on SoutheastAsia.Org that will allow travellers to plan trips, estimate costs, check availability and bookings.

A six-week e-marketing campaign will commence 15 March to target special interest travellers, soft adventure seekers and young independents.

A three-month content contest aimed at travel bloggers, writers and photographers will also launch 15 March. Cash prizes and details of awards for the best submissions will be announced 12 March at ITB Berlin.

SoutheastAsia.org, soft-launched at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Brunei, 25 January. It was created through a Global Development Alliance under USAID donor rules between the private sector organisation, Association of Southeast Asian Nations Tourism Association (ASEANTA) and USAID’s ASEAN Competitiveness Enhancement (ACE) project managed by the US consultancy firm Nathan Associates Inc. USAID is spending US$4 million on the project over a five year period that ends in 2013.

For the record, the other John is an imposter … probably one of the ACE team doing a little viral marketing … besides, this John (real one) uses the term groovy, not cool.

Congratulations to all involved in this project; it’s a cool website and a good initiative. Anything that helps drive inbound business away from the big Western tour operators to ASEAN based suppliers should be applauded. Wish you guys all the best.
