The Tourism Council of Thailand is organising its first overseas road show to Singapore and Australia for 50 small and medium-sized tourism operators.

Participants come from 23 provinces representing all four regions of Thailand. They include 31 hotels, 14 tour operators, and a mix of river cruise, shops and spa operators.

According to TCT, the road show will cost Bt15 million with Bt11 million granted by the Office of the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion, which aims  to promote SME enterprises in tourism, particularly in the Asean+3 markets. TCT is supplying the Bt4 million balance.

Only SMEs are eligible to join. Small companies are defined as those having no more than 50 employees and no more than Bt50 million in permanent assets. Medium-sized business must be within an upper ceiling of 200 employees and having not more than Bt200 million in permanent assets.

The road show will run from 22 to 28 February. They will meet 150 to 200 Australian travel agents at Star City Hotel and Casino in Sydney, Australia, 23 February and survey tourism products, 24 February. From 26 to 28 February, they will attend the NATAS Travel Fair 2010 at Singapore Expo before flying back to Bangkok in the evening.

Participants paid a Bt10,000 fees to cover all expenses for fares and accommodation in both countries.

TCT secretary general, Pornthip Hirunkate, said the council will plan other road shows to China, India and Indonesia, later this year, all designed to assist SME travel enterprises.
