TAT plans to bring 250 media representatives from all regions to celebrate its 50th anniversary 23 March.
Invites have been sent out by TAT overseas offices for media representatives to survey 50 new highlighted products in Thailand.
On 23 March, they will attend a half-day seminar in the morning at the ESCAP meeting hall to listen to presentations on Thailand’s four tourism trends made by guest speakers. The trends identified are: luxury travel; community-based tourism; medical tourism; and experiential tourism. In the evening, a dinner reception will be held at Nakaraphirom Park on the bank of the Chao Phraya River.
TAT sets a budget of Bt6 million for entertainment.
The authority also plans to conduct other activities during the anniversary year such as interviewing 50 renowned Thai families about must-see tourism sites; 50th anniversary stamps; a promotional wrapping of the exterior of TAT’s head office building; redesign of TAT logo; a 50 happiness routes manual; tourism manual in Braille; clean up the TAT building activity and staff training on environmental conservation.

What a total waste of money. These mega media FAMs are nothing more than junkets, badly organised and never properly targeted and messaged. The TAT is so far back in the mists of time when it comes to media relations. Half the problem is the officials have more fun than the hacks at the government’s expense.
