HK readies for the Tiger

Hong Kong will celebrate the Year of the Tiger, 8 to 21 February, with events featuring fireworks, flower markets and night parades.

On the night of 15 February, the highlight is a firework display over Victoria Harbour between Central district and Tsim Sha Tsui.

From 8 to 13 February, flower markets  are open,  from noon to midnight, at 14 parks and playgrounds, including Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Island and Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok, Kowloon.

A night parade is scheduled for 14 February (Chinese New Year’s Day) sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways. The parade features decorated floats accompanied by international and local performing groups and marching bands. There is a carnival atmosphere as crowds line the route around Tsim Sha Tsui.

The parade begins 2000 at Hong Kong Culture Centre Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui and ends at New World Centre.

Ticket costs HK$300/US$180 per person in spectator stands with seating at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and along the parade route. Tickets are available at Hong Kong Tourism Board Visitor Centre at Star Ferry Concourse, Tsim Sha Tsui. Ticket sales start 6 February.
