Berlin on a tourism roll

Berlin saw a positive growth in tourism during the first nine months of the year with a 4% increase in visitor arrivals and a 5.2% increase in overnight stays.

The German capital drew a record of 6,110,551 visitors (+4%) and 14,123,277 room nights (+5.2%) during the first three quarters. There were 146,886 visitors from Asia mostly Japanese with 32,192 arrivals, a decrease of 15.4% but Chinese market including Hong Kong are strongly increasing with 25,206 arrivals, up 21.1%, followed by Israel with 36,455 arrivals, up 14%. Other Asian markets mostly saw negative figures.

Brandenburger_Tor_-_BerlIn September alone, there were 777,830 arrivals to the city, up 0.1% and 1,801,759 room nights, up 4.5% compared over the same period last year. Arrivals from China including Hong Kong recorded an increase 63% with 5,520 arrivals and Israel with 5,003 arrivals, and increase 13.6%.

There was double digit growth in July. According to current figures from the Berlin-Brandenburg Bureau of Statistics,  794,400 million guests spent around 1.94 million nights in the city’s accommodations. That represents an increase of 12.4% in tourists and 12.2%in bed nights.

In September domestic market still accounts 60.5% market share and the rest are from abroad. Top ten international visitors are mostly from European counties for Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, including United States. Especially high rates of growth were recorded from China (+63%), Italy (+26.8%), Greece (+19.8%), Israel (+13.6%), and Denmark (+10%).
