Bangkok Airways’ license to operate flights on Cambodia’s domestic route, between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, will expire 25 October, leaving only the fledging Angkor Air to serve domestic travel between the two main tourist destinations.  The relatively new airline was designated the country’s national carrier recently.

An interim license was granted to Bangkok Airways by the Cambodian government to operate the route from 22 November, last year, after its sister airline, Siem Reap Airways, ceased operations due a ban imposed by the European Union that alleged the airline was unsafe.

Cambodia Angkor Air is operating four daily flights between the two main cities using ATR72s and according to the winter schedule, posted on its website, the airline will not increase services to compensate for the loss of seat capacity when Bangkok Airways ends its services.

Bangkok Airways will still serve international routes from Bangkok to both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, in Cambodia, three and five times daily, respectively.
